article imageReview: Jake Miller rocks New York, completes ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Special

Huntington - On August 18, rapper Jake Miller headlined a concert at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, presented by the hit radio station, 106.1 BLI.
The Karma Killers and Nick Tangorra Band served as his opening acts.
A Florida native and 21-year-old rapper, Miller went on stage promptly at 9:30 p.m. His stage was graced in green lights, and his band included a drummer and a DJ, both of which were able to get the crowd on their feet, along with Miller.
"Long Island, what's up?" Miller shouted. "How long has it been since we've been here?" he asked, and his dedicated fans immediately responded "November 15" from last year.
His set included such songs as "Hollywood," which he commenced a capella, and his latest radio single "First Flight Home," among many other noteworthy rap vocals.
He informed the audience that he wants to see them jumping, having their hands up in the air and getting crazy. "If I see you not doing that, it's bad," he told them, but the crowd was immersed the entire night in his live performance.
Miller had told his fans that he would have a "very special surprise" for them at the end of the show, and he was right. "Where's the kiddy pool?" he asked, and he had The Paramount fans chanting back "kiddy pool" to him. He invited his father up on stage with him to pour the bucket of ice water on top of him. His father had surprised him at this concert.
He had accepted the ALS ice bucket challenge, which he was nominated for by his sister, Jenny, as well as rapper Becky G, and it was quite the spectacle. This fundraiser raises money for the ALS Association, which enhances awareness on Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Verdict
Overall, Jake Miller was able to put on a high-energy show at The Paramount. It is safe to say that he has grown as an artist and songwriter since he last performed at the venue in November, and his fan-base has grown exponentially. He is one of the finest talents in contemporary rap and hip hop music, and he deserves to make it big in the industry. He commanded the stage well and his personality was infectious. It is no wonder that he recently made Digital Journal's Top 10 "pop music acts to watch in 2014" list. He deserves two thumbs up.
