Awakening was released on September 23, via her record label, Sony Masterworks. Nick Patrick served as its producer.
It opens with her soothing lead single "
Think of Me," where she pays tribute to
The Phantom of the Opera.
She follows it up with the piercing yet ethereal "Your Love," which displays the impressive control of her voice. Laura Fabian would be proud of Evancho's crystalline rendition of "Je T'aime."
"Take Me There" is subtle, while "Open Fields of Grace" is gorgeous due to its flute solo and the heavenly vocals furnished by Evancho. Her cover of "The Rains of Castamere" from the HBO television show
Game of Thrones is quite impressive.
"Ave Maria" has been covered by many classical crossover artists in music, but Evancho does this tune more than justice. "Vocalise" is haunting, and she makes U2's "With or Without You" her own, and it stands out as one of the best tracks on the album. She closed on a fitting note with "Made to Dream," which she sang beautifully.
