By Markos Papadatos     Oct 28, 2014 in Music
Broadway star Idina Menzel has released her newest album "Holiday Wishes" and it is a superb collection of holiday songs.
Fans can catch the Tony-winning actress in the Broadway musical If/Then.
Her CD opens with the stellar "Do You Hear What I Hear," where Menzel's powerhouse rendition ranks equal in excellence to that of Martina McBride and the late Whitney Houston. Is it followed by the nostalgic classic "The Christmas Song" and she duets with Michael Buble on "Baby It's Cold Outside," and their vocals blend well with each other.
Menzel displays her high notes on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and she changes the pace of her collection with the uptempo, piano-driven "All I Want For Christmas Is You," the latter of which would make Mariah Carey proud.
"What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" is a ballad, which is controlled, polished and captivating. "December Prayer" is yet another soothing gem on the new project.
"When You Wish Upon A Star" showcases her classically trained voice, as he is accompanied by a piano. "Silent Night" is tender and angelic and Menzel will give her listeners goosebumps on her version.
One of the greatest covers on Holiday Wishes is her hypnotic rendition of Joni Mitchell's "River," which ought to be released to the radio airwaves during the holiday season.
Her album closes with the cheerful and upbeat "Holly Jolly Christmas" and "White Christmas," which is the perfect example of her trademark vocal range.
The Verdict
Overall, Idina Menzel is wonderful on her newest holiday album. All 12 tracks are remarkable and the vocals stand out by a mile. It would make the perfect gift for anybody this holiday season. It garners an A rating.
