Review: Home Free delights on new ‘Country Evolution’ album (Includes first-hand account)

Their CD opens with “Summer in the Country,” which has a neo-traditionalist vibe to it, and it is followed by “Good Ol’ Country Harmony,” which is an original Home Free recording, with their voices as their sole instruments. They pay tribute to such esteemed country acts as Alabama with “Alabama Sampler,” Charlie Daniels (“The Devil Went Down To Georgia”) and Dolly Parton with “9 to 5.”

Home Free does a splendid rendition of The Oak Ridge Boys‘ classic hit “Elvira,” and they invite the newly inducted Country Music Hall of Famers to collaborate with them on this track, and their duet works quite well.

One of their greatest performances is their refreshing version of Sam Hunt’s “House Party,” which Hunt would smile upon. It closes with such exquisite songs as “California Country” and “Serenity.”

The Verdict

Overall, Home Free showcases their vocal gymnastics on this album, and they are able to deliver for their fans. They do all of the original artists justice by giving their songs a unique, a cappella twist. This CD garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. They emerge as the country music equivalent of Pentatonix.
