Review: Granger Smith superb on new country single ‘Backroad Song’ (Includes first-hand account)

His baritone vocals are impressive and reminiscent of such country stars as Brad Paisley meets Dustin Lynch. He just signed a record deal with the Broken Bow Records Music Group, so his future in country music should be promising. The song’s “ooh-ooh-ooh” hooks are pure ear candy, coupled with the vivid imagery of its lyrics, are all a recipe for a smash hit.

“Barbed wire fence carving out a hillside, cutting holes in the midday sun, Like a postcard framed in a windshield covered in dust,” Smith sings in the opening verse, and instantly immerses his listening audience into the song.

The Verdict

Overall, Granger Smith’s latest single “Backroad Song” is a great deal of fun, and it is somewhat autobiographical that many of his male listeners can relate to. For country fans that are unfamiliar with his music, this tune is the quintessential introduction to Smith and his craft. He certainly knows how to entertain a crowd, and this song is radio-friendly that will fare well in the live setting. “Backroad Song” earns 4 out of 5 stars.
