Growing up, I was a huge Garth Brooks fan. I loved his songs "The Dance," "Ain't Going Down ('Til The Sun Comes Up)," "Friends in Low Place," as well as "The River," so I had major expectations to hear some new music from the Country Music Hall of Famer. I couldn't have been more upset with the final outcome.
While the song's production is decent, Brooks' vocals on the tune are lackluster, weak and almost totally unrecognizable. It sounds like mediocre karaoke at best, and something you would not anticipate from an artist of his caliber. If somebody had asked me to identify this song, had I heard it on the radio for the first time, I would have never known it was Brooks. It doesn't even sound country.
Did his engineers and producers listen back to the final version of the song before releasing it to the airwaves? One may certainly inquire about that.

The Verdict
The river for
Garth Brooks has run dry on this new song "People Loving People." I will try my best not to commit this song to memory, since this isn't the Garth Brooks that I grew up listening to and loved. It garners a D- rating.
Let's hope that his upcoming album will consist of much stronger material for his fans and listeners, since this was certainly not a great way to introduce a new project.
