article imageReview: Echosmith sounds refreshing on their 'Cool Kids' single Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 26, 2014 in Music
Alternative-pop group Echosmith is taking the radio station airwaves by storm thanks to the success of their breakthrough single "Cool Kids."
The song is a track from their debut studio album Talking Dreams, which was released on their record label, Warner Bros. Records. Their music video was directed by Gus Black in Los Angeles, California.
An alternative pop band, comprised of four siblings (Jamie, Noah, Sydney and Graham Sierota), Echosmith co-wrote "Cook Kids," with their father, Jeffery David Sierota, and Jesiah Dzwonek.
Sydney's lead vocals on this tune are lilting and reminiscent of such esteemed songstresses as Taylor Swift meets Ellie Goulding, while her brother, Jamie, delivers on guitar and brother Noah rocks the bass, and they accompany her on backing vocals. Graham's drum playing is addicting, which enhances it sonically.
"I wish that I could be like the cool kids, 'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in," Sydney sings.
It is no wonder that it reached No. 1 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and it is making its way up the Top 40 and adult contemporary charts. MTV named Echosmith an "Artist to Watch" for 2014.
A Los Angeles-based foursome, Echosmith will embark on a fall "Honda Civic Tour" with American Authors in October and they will have their own headlining shows in November, which will include a stop at The Studio at Webster Hall on November 14 in New York City.
The Verdict
Echosmith stun on their new single "Cool Kids," and they deserve praise for their catchy melodies and distinct sound. It has definitely become a summer anthem for the group. Hopefully, there is a lot more where that came from. The song deserves 4.5 out of 5 stars.
