Review: DJ Ryland takes over The Paramount, opens for R5 (Includes first-hand account)

He opened for teen singer Jacob Whitesides and headlining act, pop-rock group R5.

Ryland began his set with Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” as the stage was graced in blue lights. He had the fans clapping along with him, prior to asking “Are you guys ready to get crazy?”

He played the infectious Justin Bieber single “Where Are U Now,” which is a collaboration with Diplo and Skrillex, as purple, blue and red lights decorated his stage. “All right. Who is excited for R5 tonight? You guys may be the best crowd yet,” Ryland said, praising The Paramount audience.

Ryland incorporated Maroon 5’s “Sugar” as a crowd sing-along and by Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance,” everybody was in awe of his talent.

Other songs he played included David Guetta and Nicki Minaj’s “Hey Mama,” as well as Jason Derulo’s “Want To Want Me.” He also introduced his newest single “Fall Back in Love,” which garnered a roaring response. “This is my favorite crowd in my entire life right here,” he said.

He ended on an upbeat note with “Gold Skies,” which is a collaboration with Martin Garrix, Sander van Doorn and Aleesia. After throwing several T-shirts in the crowd as gifts, he went on to thank his audience from the bottom of his heart.

The Verdict

Overall, DJ Ryland was delightful at The Paramount thanks to his well-received DJ set for R5. He was able to bring electronic dance music (EDM) to the younger audience. His show garnered two thumbs up.
