article imageReview: Brett Kissel raises the bar on new '3-2-1' music video Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 3, 2014 in Music
Canadian country singer Brett Kissel has released an action-packed music video for his single "3-2-1" and it recently went to No. 1, and rightfully so.
The song is a track on his critically-acclaimed studio album Started With A Song, and his video for "3-2-1" is a true adventure that exceeds six minutes. Kissel shows his acting chops where he plays the lead male, and his character is in a relationship with a female love interest, whose father disapproves of their relationship, hence he hires two men to break them apart, in an effort to ultimately lead him to his demise. They tie his hands on the steering wheel, after having beaten him up, and then pour gasoline all over his car (an old Chevy).
While he is in agony and tied up, Kissel sings "3-2-1" and flashbacks of the couple in happier times are shown. His vocals are bold and rich, and he sings about love from an interesting perspective.
"All my friends, they tried to warn me, tell me I should take it slowly, 'Cause they know the trouble I’m in, But loving you is like a drug and girl I just can't get enough, Until I get to see you again," Kissel sings in the second verse.
The Verdict
Brett Kissel's "3-2-1" video has garnered a Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) nomination for "CMT Video of the Year" and hopefully, it should win, since none of the other videos in that category this year come even close. The concept behind Kissel's video is unique and it feels like one is watching an Indiana Jones movie clip.
Director Shaun Silva did an excellent job on the video's direction, and the plot, acting and singing are all noteworthy. They will certainly sustain the audience's attention well after the video is over, as they inquire as to what happened to both of the characters: (Kissel) and his female love interest. Did they make it out alive in the fire, or did they perish together as lovers (in a Romeo and Juliet fashion)?
This young Canadian country star will certainly have a very bright future in the genre. He soars as a singer, songwriter and his videos are some of the best I've seen. His video "3-2-1" garners 5 out of 5 stars.
