Review: Brett Eldredge soars on new studio album ‘Illinois’ (Includes first-hand account)

It will be released on his record label, Atlantic Nashville. Illinois opens with the mid-tempo, spitfire tune “Fire.” It is followed by “You Can’t Stop Me,” his laid-back collaboration with fellow country musician Thomas Rhett, as well as his latest funky single “Lose My Mind.”

“Time Well Spent” is mellow and nonchalant, while “If You Were My Girl” is a gorgeous love ballad that will resonate well with his female fans.

The piano-driven title track, “Illinois,” is a superb, autobiographical ballad. “Just a Taste” is a refreshing and fun tune. “Drunk on Your Love” is a solid choice for a future radio single, due to its catchy instrumentation, strong melodies and rich vocals by Eldredge.

It closes with “Lose It All”, where he displays his dynamic vocal range, and on an upbeat note with “Shadow” and “Going Away For Awhile.”

The Verdict

Overall, there is no sophomore slump on Eldredge’s newest album. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
