Review: Ashley Monroe treats Madison Square Garden to her angelic vocals (Includes first-hand account)

Monroe shared the stage with fellow country star Justin Moore, thus warming up the stage for the reigning Country Music Association (CMA) “Female Vocalist of the Year,” Miranda Lambert, on her “Certified Platinum” tour. Monroe accompanied herself on acoustic guitar, and look stunning in her black boots, red top and white mini-skirt.

A Tennessee native, Monroe’s set included such songs as the upbeat “Weed Instead of Roses,” as well as the title track of her sophomore studio album, “Like a Rose,” the latter of which was extremely special to her, since she dedicated it to her late father for his birthday. “This one goes out to my sweet, sweet daddy tonight,” Monroe said, prior to delivering a delicate vocal performance of “Like a Rose,” where her vocals were reminiscent of Lee Ann Womack.

“Two Weeks Late” had a retro country vibe to it, while her new single “On To Something Good” was uplifting and cheery.

The Verdict

Overall, Ashley Monroe was delightful at Madison Square Garden in New York. She was able to warm up the stage for Miranda Lambert, who ironically enough is her band-mate in the country group Pistol Annies. Her honey-rich vocals stayed true to her traditional country roots, and she deserves to become the next big female country star in the genre. Monroe’s show garnered an A rating.
