article imageReview: Armin van Buuren captivates New York's Pier 94 Special

By Markos Papadatos     Dec 30, 2014 in Music
New York - On December 29, world renowned DJ and producer Armin van Buuren played a set at Pier 94 in New York City, for an excellent turnout.
DJs Mark Sixma and Jochen Miller served as his opening acts, both of which were impressive. Acclaimed DJ Andrew Rayel played after Armin's set.
Armin van Buuren opened his show with neat trance instrumentals and synths, which resonated well with his loyal fans. "Good evening, New York," he said. "I have one question. Are you ready for 'A State of Trance?' If you are ready, put your hands up and make some noise New York," Armin added.
Many of his fans paid homage to him with large birthday signs, in an effort to celebrate his recent birthday celebration. Armin had just turned 38 on Christmas day.
The highlight tune was his Grammy-nominated "This Is What It Feels Like." He was able to blend the contemporary song with hardcore trance and it was quite the spectacle (with large white and blue balloons and confetti dropping from the venue's ceiling). The only downside was that singer-songwriter Trevor Guthrie was not present to sing the tune live, however, he made a cameo singing the track on the giant televised screen. All of the fans were reciting the lyrics to "This Is What It Feels Like" verbatim.
In 2014, Armin was the highest-ranking trance DJ on DJ Magazine's Top 100 poll, and he ranked No. 3 overall.
The Verdict
Armin van Buuren had the New York crowd with him every step of the way. They were clapping, dancing and jumping at the beat of his tracks. For the second consecutive time this year in "The Big Apple," Armin did not disappoint. He played an equally stellar concert in Madison Square Garden this past April as Digital Journal reported. It is no wonder that he is one of the most streamed artists on Spotify. Armin proved that he is still the reigning king of trance, and he gave Pier 94 a night of electronic dance music to remember as 2014 comes to a close.
