article imageReview: Alter Bridge rocks on 'Cry of Achilles' single and video Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 4, 2014 in Music
Rock band Alter Bridge released an intense, yet animated music video for their latest single "Cry of Achilles," which is quite different than their previous work.
"Cry of Achilles" is the opening track from the newest studio album Fortress and it was co-written by the band members of Alter Bridge (Myles Kennedy, Brian Marshall, Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips). Their video was directed by SiLee films via Genero.
While the tune exceeds six minutes, it is a true instrumental and vocal masterpiece. It consists of strong hooks and riffs and Myles Kennedy's lead vocals are powerful and haunting.
"I cannot seem to find the answers, Every truth has slipped away, All that riddles me will never cease to be, Still I search this world in vain," Kennedy sings, and he displays his wide vocal range on this tune, since he is able to go from low to high notes with ease.
They really pick up the pace of the song towards the end as Kennedy sings, "We can’t hesitate, hope it's not too late, For the time has come, what have we become? Nothing left to do but deny the truth."
The Verdict
"Cry of Achilles" is definitely a standout track on Fortress, and it seems like a great deal of fun for the band to play at their live shows. It certainly sets the standard for the rest of the album. The song garners an A rating.
Speaking of live shows, they will be playing at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, on October 12, with California Breed as their special guest. To learn more about this show, visit the venue's official homepage.
