Review: 80s cover band Jessie’s Girl disappoints at The Paramount (Includes first-hand account)

The band did not take the stage on time, they were approximately 45 minutes late. They had a DJ that played 80s music for almost an hour, with songs such as “Walk Like An Egyptian” from The Bangles, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper, “Eye of the Tiger” from Survivor, which was a complete waste of time. One could have stayed home and watched YouTube videos instead of the same 80s songs. Even the original artists of most of these songs are known to take the stage on time, so why not a cover band?

Their set included popular 80s hits such as a cover of Journey’s “Any Way You Want It,” English group Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” “I Don’t Want To Lose Your Love Tonight,” all of which were unimpressive and boring. In addition, there is nothing like hearing your favorite Whitney Houston song, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” being butchered by Jenna O’ Gara. It was evident that the Whitney classic was totally out of her vocal range and comfort zone.

The only good to come out of this concert is that it allowed the audience members to dress up in their favorite 80s costumes, and reminisce the fun times in their youth for a night.

The Verdict

Overall, their “Back to the Eighties” show garnered 2 out of 5 stars. They seemed to have potential, but they did not use it to their full capacity. It felt like there was too much karaoke in their set, their choreography was all over the place, and they did not do the original recordings from the 80s any justice. They ought to try harder next time.
