article imageOp-Ed: Top 5 summer anthem songs in country music for 2014

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 16, 2014 in Music
Country music was full of great summer anthems, and the following five songs by such artists as Joe Nichols, Sam Hunt, Jake Owen, Brett Eldredge and Elizabeth Lyons stand out as some of the best.
The following five summer songs are arranged in no particular order.
Brett Eldredge's "Beat of the Music": Brett Eldredge reached the top of the country charts for the second time with "Beat of the Music," and rightfully so. The song is infectious, upbeat and catchy, and his music video, which was filmed in the Bahamas, instantly puts the viewer in a summer mood, wishing they were there having a fun time. His music video also reached the top of the CMT Hot 20 Countdown, and the song has been certified gold. Good going, Brett.
Elizabeth Lyons' "Jeep!": Elizabeth Lyons' vocals on "Jeep!" are fun and crystalline, while her song is up-tempo and liberating. It is the female compliment to the male-dominated "bro-country" songs on radio. She released the song independently, along with yet another fun, summer anthem "#Party Rules." The "Everything Tonight" songstress knows how to make her fans happy this summer thanks to such noteworthy tunes.

Jake Owen's "Beachin'": Jake Owen's sophomore single from his Days of Gold album, "Beachin'," is very laid-back, calming and mellow and just perfect to meditate to. It is in wonder that it has been certified gold and reached the top of the country charts. At his live show at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Owen made you feel as if you were at the beach, when he performed this tune.
Joe Nichols' "Yeah": Joe Nichols just scored his second back-to-back No. 1 single with the infectious summer anthem, "Yeah," from his latest album Crickets, which was co-produced by Mickey Jack Cones and Tony Brown. It is definitely one of the best songs of his career so far, and I'm glad that it stayed for three weeks at No. 1 on the country charts. Nobody deserves that more than Joe, since he is one of the hardest-working male vocalists in the genre. To quote the song's title, "Yeah!"
Sam Hunt's "Leave the Night On": Sam Hunt soars on his debut single "Leave The Night On," which is nearing the Top 20 on country radio. It is a refreshing country-pop tune, that displays Hunt's songwriting skills and use of vivid imagery. It is ideal to listen to while driving in your car, after rolling down the windows.
