article imageOp-Ed: Top 5 female country albums of 2014 Special

By Markos Papadatos     Oct 4, 2014 in Music
2014 was a great year for female country artists and their new album releases. The following CDs are my Top 5 albums this year.
At No. 5, was Lucy Hale: A gifted actress, Lucy Hale proved that her talents are not limited to acting. Her breakthrough country album, Road Between, was quite the delight. It features her lead single "You Sound Good To Me," as well as a duet with Joe Nichols, entitled "Red Dress."

At No. 4, was Sara Evans: Sara's new album, Slow Me Down, was absolutely stunning. It features the soaring title track single, and an exceptional version of "Not Over You," where she duets with Gavin DeGraw.

Martina McBride comes in at No. 3: This year, country star Martina McBride released her first cover album of R&B and soul classics, Everlasting, and it propelled to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album charts. This was quite impressive since she accomplished this feature by releasing the album independently.

Dolly Parton triumphs at No. 2: Dolly Parton proved that she still is the queen of country music with her newest album, Blue Smoke. It features a collaboration with fellow country veteran Kenny Rogers, the Grammy-nominated "You Can't Make Old Friends."

When all is said and done, the greatest country album by a female country artist released in 2014, is Lee Ann Womack's The Way I'm Livin', which reigns supreme at No. 1. Every song on that project is stellar, and she manages to stay true to her musical roots. She lets her mellifluous voice do all the talking. Congratulations Lee Ann.
