By Markos Papadatos     Aug 21, 2014 in Music
The fan love for the EDM genre of music keeps growing exponentially. These are my Top 5 favorite EDM songs that were released over the past year.
At No. 5, is ATB's "When It Ends It Starts Again," featuring singer Sean Ryan. His vocals are soulful yet haunting, and they blend well with ATB's electronic rhythm beats.
At No. 4 is Adventure Club's "Wonder," where they collaborate with The Kite String Tangle. The vocals are smooth and soothing, reminiscent of Coldplay meets Snow Patrol. It has a soft and calming beat that is easy to relax and meditate to, despite its sad lyrics since the tune is about a young boy and his older brother.
At No. 3 is Dash Berlin's "Here Tonight," a collaboration with Jay Cosmic and Collin McLoughlin. McLoughlin impresses on vocals thanks to his velvet voice and it has a positive energy to it, uplifting vibe and incredible synth beats by Dash Berlin.
At No. 2 is Gareth Emery and Bo Bruce's "U," which is utterly fantastic. Emery's musical pairing with British sensation Bo Bruce is a match made in heaven. Her vocals are soothing, calming and they are the perfect fit for the EDM genre, and they compliment the beats and melodies of "U" well. In fact, Emery's entire Drive album is superb.
At No. 1 is Armin van Buuren's "This is What It Feels Like." While it may have been released in late 2013, it garnered the Grammy nomination in 2014 and it became popular in the United States this year, since it was played on radio stations of many formats, such as pop, EDM and adult contemporary. Trevor Guthrie nails the vocals on this melancholic tune about loss, yet with its dance beat, it becomes uplifting and infectious. It was spectacular when they performed this tune at New York's Madison Square Garden this past April. An equally noteworthy track by Armin and another stand-out in his live shows is "Ping Pong."
