article imageOp-Ed: Top 10 Female Country Singers to Watch in 2014

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 22, 2014 in Music
Ten rising female singers are taking the country music industry by storm in 2014. Here is my Top 10 list, which is done in no particular order.
Allison Veltz: Newcomer Allison Veltz is blessed with a mellifluous voice, reminiscent of a young Alison Krauss.
I was drawn to her vocals from the very first time I heard her music.
Her breakthrough single "Bright Side" is a controlled and gorgeous vocal that is worthy of the repeat button.
Brandy Clark: Brandy Clark is like a modern-day Gretchen Wilson. I love her sass, attitude and upbeat songs. She certainly knows how to rock on her "Stripes" single, while simultaneously staying true to her country music roots.
Elizabeth Lyons: Independent country artist Elizabeth Lyons impressed me with I first heard her single "Everything Tonight" last year, and her newest single "Jeep!" is quite remarkable and refreshing. Blessed with a bubbly and warm personality, Lyons writes her own songs, and she is on the right path of making it big in country.
Jamie Lynn Spears: The younger sister of pop mega-star Britney Spears, Jamie Lynn Spears has released a traditional country single "How Could I Want More," which is pleasant and moving. If she continues this pace, she will certainly be the next Ashley Monroe or Lee Ann Womack.
Joanna Mosca: I was inspired by Joanna Mosca's breakthrough single "Dream on Savannah," and her newest single "Have A Little Mercy," an upbeat, rocking tune about female empowerment, displays a different side to her music, proving the versatility of her artistry. Mosca's vocals are a mixture of such esteemed songstresses as Jo Dee Messina, Lisa Matassa and Reba McEntire.

Kira Isabella: Canadian country darling Kira Isabella won the 2013 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) "Female Artist of the Year" award, and her newest single, the powerhouse yet poignant ballad "Quarterback" is proof that her win was indeed based on merit.
Leah Turner: Columbia Nashville recording artist Leah Turner has a wide range of talent. She rocks on her latest single "Pull Me Back," which she co-wrote. It is no wonder that she is out on tour with country superstar Brad Paisley. He sure knows talent, that's for sure.

Lindsay Ell: Stoney Creek recording artist Lindsay Ell may very well be the next Miranda Lambert or Kacey Musgraves. Her single "Trippin' On Us" is infectious and this Canadian girl sure knows how to rock the guitar and co-write her own music.

Lucy Hale: The Pretty Little Liars actress-turned-country singer Lucy Hale has displayed her singing talent on her debut single, the catchy "You Sound Good To Me," which has an uplifting vibe to it. She deserves to become the next Jana Kramer in country music.

Natalie Stovall: Natalie Stovall is the lead singer of the country group Natalie Stovall and the Drive. She is tearing the radio airwaves with her single "Baby Come On With It," her vocals are strong and he knows how to play the fiddle. Her looks are reminiscent of Kimberly Perry from The Band Perry, which is an added plus.
