Op-Ed: Ashley Monroe should win Grammy award for ‘Best Country Album’

Monroe is nominated along with such country artists as Sam Hunt for Montevallo, Little Big Town for Pain Killer, Kacey Musgraves for Pageant Material and Chris Stapleton for Traveller.

While she may be the least popular name in the group, her album is sheer vocal perfection. It made Digital Journal’s list of “Top 5 Female Albums of 2015,” and it is traditional country to the core. With the exception of Stapleton’s Traveller, the other albums in the running are way too country-pop.

The Verdict

For all these reasons and more, Ashley Monroe deserves to win her first Grammy award for “Best Country Album” for The Blade. It is excellent from start to finish, and it is a “razor sharp” studio effort. If for any reason it does not go to Monroe, they the second worthy contender would be Chris Stapleton for Traveller.
