article imageMichael W. Smith to release traditional church 'Hymns' album

By Markos Papadatos     Mar 16, 2014 in Music
Christian music sensation Michael W. Smith will release his newest album, "Hymns," on March 24, exclusively at all Cracker Barrel Old Country store locations and on their official website.
This marks the first time in the Grammy winner's lengthy career that he has recorded an album of traditional hymns, many of which he sang in church when he was young. The album consists of 15 songs.
"I first heard many of these hymns when I attended First Baptist Church in Kenova, West Virginia with my mom, dad, and sister Kimberly," Michael W. Smith stated in a press statement. "The message of the songs combined with the timeless music helped build the foundation of my Christian beliefs. I have always wanted to record an album of hymns, and am thankful that Cracker Barrel Old Country Store wanted to share it with their guests."
Hymns was produced by Kyle Lee and Jim Daneker. The 15th and final track "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" was produced by Smith himself.
The CD features timeless Christian classics, which range in creation date from 1708, such as "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," to "Wonderful, Merciful Savior," the latter of which was penned in 1989. The remainder of the hymns were written between 1840 and 1953.
