He died four days after his 70th birthday at his home in California. He had learned about his cancer diagnosis two days prior, on December 26, and he passed away while playing one of his favorite video games.
The official Motorhead Facebook page, shared the news, and they encouraged their fans to play Motorhead loud, as well as Hawkwind and Lemmy’s music loud, and to celebrate his life, as opposed to mourn him, since that was the way that Lemmy would have wanted it.
His dear friend, Ozzy Osbourne, confirmed his passing via a tweet. “Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side,” Osbourne said on his Twitter page.
Acclaimed guitarist Dave Navarro also expressed his condolences in Lemmy’s memory. “Peace and love to Lemmy and family! #RIPLemmy,” Navarro tweeted.
May he R.I.P.
