By Markos Papadatos     Dec 26, 2014 in Music
Bluegrass musician Kenny Smith, the husband of Amanda Smith, chatted about his IBMA award nomination for "Guitar Player of the Year."
On his prestigious nomination, he said, "That was awesome. Every time you get in the Top 5 in the IBMAs, it is really special. I just feel blessed every time to be in a category like that."
Throughout his career, Kenny has won the "Guitar Player of the Year" award twice. "I sure have. I was lucky enough to win it. That was a great honor. It was wild, because I didn't even know about the IBMA. I was touring with Claire Lynch and she was doing a showcase up there, and that was the first time I heard about the IBMA. I was blown away up there and that changed my path," he said.
His wife, Amanda, was crowned 2014 "Female Vocalist of the Year" at the IBMA awards. "She was so excited, and that really meant a lot to her, to be recognized in that category. To actually win it, she was blown away. That was really a blessing and we cannot put into words how blessed we are," he said.
Kenny revealed that he and Amanda are expecting their baby girl around April 15. "We are very happy," he said. "That is going to be great."
He showcased his appreciation for their bluegrass fans, which are like members of their family.
