The acclaimed singer-songwriter is asking her fans for inspiration, as part of the ReThink campaign's "Why Housing Matters" song contest, which runs through May 14. One lucky winner will be afforded the privilege to travel to Los Angeles to meet Jewel and attend an exclusive performance that will feature the song they inspired her to write.
For this contest, fans can get involved by submitting a photo and a short essay of why housing matters to them, which will serve as an inspiration for Jewel to compose a new tune about the importance of home. She will simultaneously be raising awareness for the benefits of public housing.
In my phone interview with
Jewel last July, she had opened up about the significance of this cause. "It's really great and by getting to know people, our goal is to reduce those stereotypes. 40 percent of the people that live there are children and based on research living in public housing doesn't correlate to higher crime rates. There is so much misinformation out there and I want to encourage people to get to know public housing better," she said.
