article imageJason Aldean: True confessions of a country bro

By Earl Dittman     Sep 19, 2014 in Music
In the current issue of Billboard, Jason Aldean opened up about dating 'American Idol' contestant Brittany Kerr, admitting that he is fed up with the media attention it brought him, how he was influenced by Guns N' Roses and not being a "country bro."
With "Burin' It Down," his current single from his upcoming sixth album Old Boats, New Dirt (available October 7), staying put at the coveted Number One spot (for the eighth straight week) on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, Jason Aldean is one country bro who is riding high. Having just come off of a massive, sold-out tour (which raked in a reported $13 million in box office receipts), Aldean could easily be considered the biggest and hottest dude in country music.
Jason Aldean recently sat down with Billboard Magazine for a frank discussion about his life under the spot. Some of the highlights of his chat with Billboard (HERE) included...
Dealing with the tabloids after relationship with American Idol contestant Brittany Kerr: “It has been two years of this shit — get over it, already! And then when I finally do get enough of it and say something, every newspaper grabs it. And I’m not trying to get in the headlines — I’m just trying to get people to stop running their mouths.”

Being influenced by rockers like Guns N' Roses: "I grew up on Guns N' Roses and those guys who were really badass when they played a show. They were stoned or drunk out of their minds onstage, but still just killing it. I remember seeing (GNR) at the American Music Awards drunk out of their minds, accepting an award, cussing all over the place because they were destroyed. I'm not saying that those were the guys that I strived to be, but those were the guys that I grew up watching."
Why he is not really a "country bro": "One of my best friends in the world is Luke (Bryan). He can flash those teeth like that, and he walks around smiling all the time. I'm the complete opposite. We'll do a photo shoot and I'll look at all the ones of me smiling and I'll just move them to the side, like, 'Those are out.' I hope people feel like what you see is what you get with me. I don't try to be something I'm not. It's too much work to try to be something else."
