article imageIrish duo Heathers talk about new album 'Kingdom' and tour dates Special

By Markos Papadatos     Apr 7, 2014 in Music
Irish breakout duo Heathers will release their new album "Kingdom" in the United States on April 8 on Aunthill Records/Big3 Records, with a distribution through RED/Sony.
The alternative pop duo is comprised of twin sisters Ellie and Louise Macnamara. Their new album has already been nominated for Ireland's prestigious "Choice Music Prize," an annual music prize that is awarded to the best album in the country.
On the album's song selection process, Ellie remarked, "We basically wrote 11 songs and they were the ones on the album. We were scrapping until we came up with the 11 songs that we wanted to work with and it all came together."
Their CD features their lead single "Forget Me Knots." "It is the first single off of 'Kingdom' and I think it is probably one of my favorite songs on the album. We wrote it for a friend of ours that took her own life a couple of years ago, around the time that we were writing the album. The chorus of the song is 'it's all right not to feel ok' and that gives a message in itself," Louise said. "It's a very serious topic, but at the same time, it is quite hopeful and uplifting song and you can get that from the melody."
Heathers will be playing at Pianos, a venue in New York City on April 8, in support of their album release. "We are really excited about that show and we are going to be doing a stripped down set. It is going to be a lot of fun," Ellie said. "We love New York."
In October of 2013, the duo rapidly gained popularity in the United States since they played two summer tours of house shows along with shows in Connecticut and New York. The ladies also performed at SXSW for Young Hollywood and Amazon. They made appearances on WCIT and PIX11 Morning News and Nylon Magazine listed the sisters as "one of our new favorite bands." "That is incredible and it is great to hear that people are liking our music," Ellie said.
The future for Heathers will be quite busy. "We are releasing our album this week which we are really excited about. In the coming months, we are planning dates for summertime festivals and other than that, we are writing a lot and touring around in other parts of the world. It's an exciting time," Louise stated.
Ellie shared that they are motivated each day thanks to their family, friends and their music. "We feel so happy to get to do what we love every day and that in itself is a huge motivation," she said.
The duo already has the support from acclaimed electronic dance music sensation, DJ and producer David Guetta, as well as film and television producer, screenwriter and director JJ Abrams, the latter of which they met at JJ's pre-Oscar party last year when they performed. "We listen to David Guetta a lot and it is great to hear that he likes our music. We played a pre-Oscars party for Abrams last year, so that was pretty incredible too," Louise said.
