Interview: Rend Collective talks Madison Square Garden, new album (Includes interview)

On performing at Madison Square Garden in New York City, as part of Chris Tomlin’s “Worship Night in America,” Gilkeson said, “That was a real experience. It is a dream for anybody to play there. We had always heard and loved the venue from back in Ireland, and we were excited to come and play.”

Their single “You Will Never Run” is a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Christian Airplay charts. “That has been a real encouragement and surprise for us. You never know when you write these songs how people are going to take them. We are just loving it,” he said.

As Family We Go, their forthcoming album, will be out on August 21, and they are “pretty excited” about it. “As a band, we love music, but we also really feel the relationships we have between us are really important, and they felt more like a family than a band,” he said. “It has been a real journey, and life is a journey.”

Gilkeson listed “Every Giant Will Fall” as his favorite track on the album. “It sounds pretty epic,” he said. “We all have issues and struggles in life. The giants may be too powerful for us and the mountains may be too high to climb, but we believe as Christians, that Jesus is the name that brings down the giants and those mountains.”

Next spring, Rend Collective will be embarking on their next headlining tour, which will take place in 50 cities. “The venues are getting bigger, and the stress is getting higher, but we are really excited. We will come back and do the same thing in the U.K. and in Europe as well,” he said.
