Regarding the song selection for their new album, Hampson said, “We always write individually, so Brian and I started bringing in songs around June of 2014. We decided to work with management for the first time in years, and they had clear directives. They were pushing up to make that record. It took a while for us to figure out what kind of record we wanted to make. Brian and I were writing down in Nashville, and absorbing that whole world down there. The energy is great down there, and there are a lot of really creative people. We did that for a year and a half, and then we went to the studio and we narrowed it down from there.”
On July 16, they will be performing at the YMCA Boulton Center in Bay Shore, Long Island, in celebration of their 20-year anniversary in the music industry. “It’s an evening with Nine Days. It’s just us, with a two hour set. We will just keep going until everybody is bored. I am excited about that show since we are really digging in and we are playing material from the entire band’s history. We will also play songs from the new record. It is going to be fun,” he said.
Their smash single, “Absolutely (Story of a Girl),” which Hampson wrote, reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and it was certified gold.
