On performing at The Paramount on Long Island, she said, “It’s such a great venue. Everything is so cool. They have a really cool place there.”
Rimes will be playing at Chautauqua, New York, on July 1, and one week later, she will be performing at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee. “We are playing in Pennsylvania tonight and tomorrow we will be in Chautauqua. In Nashville, I am playing with the Symphony there, which is always fun. It has been a fun year since we have been playing some shows acoustic, some shows with a full band and some shows with the Symphony, so it always changes it up. I love going to Nashville. I definitely know many people there. I’ve lived there for seven years. There is always a home crowd there,” she said.
On the song selection process for her new album, which will be out on RCA Records UK, she said, “I’ve written all but two of those songs. I was at my previous label for 20 years, and now being with RCA, I have no restraints, so I’m trying to figure out where I am authentically at this moment. I never had the freedom to truly create exactly what I wanted. A lot of my songs, ever since, I have been writing really honestly, and things have gone more in that direction. I am singing about real stories that mean something to me, and this time around, I am revealing things about myself for the first time. These are things that people don’t know about me. It was very cathartic. As you get older, you realize that you are not the only person in the world that goes through these things. It is a huge responsibility and gift.”
When asked to look back on the last two decades and reflect upon those moments, Rimes said, “It would be a very winding road. I’ve had amazing things. I don’t think you can have the light without the dark and the good without the bad. I’ve had it all. I understand that all the pieces fit in the puzzle, and now I have a new puzzle that I am putting together. I feel really settled with that part of my life. I am never closing that door. I can wrap it up in a beautiful package and really appreciate it, and now move on to the next chapter.”
Each day, Rimes is motivated by the excitement that she has for life. “I have a joy for my music that I haven’t had in a while, and I am very appreciative of my family. I am a learner and I am constantly wanting to better myself and the world and those around us, and have a better place for my family. I am definitely a self-motivator but I have my moments like everybody else,” she said with a sweet laugh.
She defined the word success as “balance.” “I’ve never had balance in my life, so that is a huge thing for me. I feel that I am creating it for myself for the first time, and I’m trying to maintain it. Balance and joy. That’s really all you can ask for these days,” Rimes concluded.
