Interview: Jesse Ruben talks new single ‘This Is Why I Need You’ (Includes interview)

Regarding his moving song “This Is Why I Need You,” he said, “I took two years off for playing music since I got very sick with Lyme disease, and this is the first song I wrote after that. For a long time, I didn’t know if I was going to write or perform ever again, so now every time I play it, the song is really special.”

Ruben continued, “I was thinking about my girlfriend, my family and all my friends that really helped me get through that period of my life, which was very difficult. That song is an acknowledge to all those people, who helped me through what was easily the most difficult experience I’ve ever had. It is also a love song and a song about dealing with difficult situations.”

On April 18, Ruben opened for singer-songwriter Kris Allen at Gramercy Theatre in New York City, and his opening performance was well-received by all. “The response was really good, and that whole show actually went pretty well. I was very excited,” he said. “I would love to play with Kris Allen again. That was super-fun and he was really nice, and the audience was really generous. It was a really great night.”
