article imageInterview: Jason Crabb talks new album 'Whatever The Road' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 15, 2015 in Music
Christian singer Jason Crabb chatted about his forthcoming album "Whatever The Road," which will be released on September 18.
This marks his fifth studio album, as well as his inaugural studio effort on his new label home, Reunion Records, which is a division of Provident Label Group/Sony Music. It was produced by Jason Ingram and Paul Mabury. "I am very excited about it," he said. "I got with Provident and I signed a new record deal with them, and we released a new single 'He Knows What He's Doing.' We got to write 70 percent of this album, which is something that I have never done before. It's a new journey for me, and I am very excited."
Crabb continued, "This record is a little more of who I am than anything that I have ever gotten to do before. It was a wonderful journey."
While his favorite song on the album varies from time to time, the Kentucky native said, "There is a song on the album called 'If I Shout,' which is a really unique song. 'He Knows What He's Doing' is a song that is very dear to my heart. It was inspired by a young girl that was five years old and she had cancer, and it was one of her favorite songs, and she came up on stage and sang it, and it blessed my heart and the congregation."
His plans for the future are to continue touring, in an effort "to present this new record" to the fans. "I have two girls at home, and a wonderful wife, and a new puppy, who is nine months old now. My schedule is full with touring and radio touring and I get to be a dad and husband. I am in a wonderful season of life," he said.
Throughout his career, Crabb has won a Grammy award for "Best Southern/Country/Bluegrass Gospel Album," as well as 21 Dove Awards, as a soloist and as a member of the Crabb Family. In 2012, the Gospel Music Association (GMA) honored him with their Dove award for "Male Vocalist of the Year" and "Artist of the Year" respectively.
Last month, Crabb was honored with a street name, "Jason Crabb Drive," in his hometown of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, which was quite flattering for him. "It is a very small town, and they built an amphitheater there. They have numerous artists coming in and I got to go back and do this new record, and they surprised me with the street name and I couldn't believe it. I was very thankful and very honored. The whole town is behind what we are doing and that is always a blessing. That was very encouraging," he said.
