Interview: Janie Fricke remembers country queen Lynn Anderson (Includes interview)

Lynn Anderson was one of the first stars to give me a chance at concert work, singing harmony behind her,” Fricke recalled. “She played super great venues and it was exciting to have that stage experience.”

Fricke added, “One night, on her private plane headed to a show, the wing caught fire, so we made an emergency landing in a wheat field, but we went on in to do the concert. We could have been a statistic that night. May God watch over her and her family now, as he did that night.”

Throughout her career in country music, Fricke was crowned “Top Female Vocalist” by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) in 1983, and “Female Vocalist of the Year” two times by the Country Music Association (CMA), in 1982 and 1983. Fricke was nominated three times for the Grammy award for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance.”

Ironically enough, last summer, both Fricke and Anderson made Digital Journal’s list of “5 Overdue Female Artists for Country Music Hall of Fame Induction.”
