article imageInterview: James Otto talks new single 'Somewhere Tonight' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Nov 11, 2014 in Music
Country star James Otto chatted about his newest radio single "Somewhere Tonight" and he opened up about his future plans in music.
On his latest single, he said, "Generally, I don't try to write with five people at the same time. We were at a writer's retreat and there were five of us. We had a house right on the beach and there was an actual ice storm and we literally had nothing to do, but to stay in the house because we couldn't go anywhere. We all got a little claustrophobic and we decided to write a couple of songs together just for fun. The song took off and we wrote it in two hours. I thought the song was really cool and really unique and really fun. A couple of months later, I decided that it was for me."
Otto added, "All of the response that I have gotten so far has been really incredible. I didn't even know what to expect from people since it was different for me, but it was what I wanted. It grabs your attention on radio when it comes on. That's the feeling I was looking for."
The country singer also discussed the significance of his song "Soldiers and Jesus," especially today, since it is Veteran's Day here in the United States. "Being a former military man, and the son of a military man and the grandson of a military man, that song meant a lot to me, and I am glad that it has struck people the same way," he said.
In December, Otto will be embarking on a solo acoustic tour. "We have a whole bunch of dates, and we are still posting dates. It is basically just me and a guitar, and we are coming to a city near you. I hope everybody comes out and checks us out. It's one of my favorite ways to play," he said.
His single was done independently on his own record label. "With SiriusXM and a couple of other stations that willing to support new music," he said.
Otto listed Adele and Meghan Trainor as his dream female duet choices, as well as Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss.
