Interview: HONNE talks new CD, ‘Someone That Loves You’ single (Includes interview)

They are drawn to electronic music due to its versatility. “It can be soulful with the right vocal on it, it can be chilled out, progressive and intricate, heavy and bassy for clubs. And often people who like electronic music will happily branch into these different areas and give it a chance. And artists are kind of free to do the same to a certain extent,” they said.

On the song selection for Warm on a Cold Night, they said, “It was tough. We had around 30 songs to pick from. We wanted the album to have some tracks on there that shaped and defined our sound, but the majority is new material. We also wanted to the album to have some variety in terms of tempo, feel, and lyrics, so there’s a couple of tracks like ‘FHKD’, ‘Out Of My Control’ and ‘One At A Time Please,’ that move a bit away from what has come before, and that was refreshing for us.”

Regarding their lead single, “Someone That Loves You,” they said, “We saw online that Izzy has mentioned us in an interview, so we tweeted her and suggested hanging out and writing a track. She was up for that, so she came round to our studio and we just sat around eating pizza and making this track, all in a day. She’s a really cool girl, very talented and great to work with.”

They will be quite busy for the distant future. They have two tours in the United States, as well as a tour in the United Kingdom, and a European tour, coupled with gigs in Japan and Korea, along with festivals. “We’ll be experimenting and working on the next album too, of course. It’s already begun,” they said.

HONNE declared the track “FHKD” as their favorite from the new album. “It was a really fun track to make because it’s not often that we go that dance-orientated. With that song it was all about making the production develop and keep building up until the end of the song. Love all that,” they said.

They listed British songstress Jessie Ware as their dream female duet choice. “We’d love to work with Jessie Ware. Love her voice and her music and think it’d be a great fit. Nao is super cool too, and AlunaGeorge could be another good one. For the next album we’ll definitely be looking at doing more collaborations, so who knows,” they said.

“Just a huge thank you really,” they told their fans. “Because of them supporting us, we’re now releasing an album and touring around the world performing it. It’s been a dream of ours for years now, so it’s incredible to be living that life. And also, we hope they all enjoy the album.”
