article imageInterview: Dyro talks electronic dance music, new label and fans Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 1, 2015 in Music
New York - World renowned Dutch DJ and producer Dyro sat down and chatted with Digital Journal prior to his concert at Pacha NYC on July 31.
On performing at Pacha NYC, Dyro said, "It feels really good to be back. I am always really excited to be back at Pacha."
Most recently, he played a show at Mykonos, Greece, which he dubbed as an "interesting" experience. "That was interesting with the entire economic situation going on, but I think we had fun," he said. "It was so beautiful. We were in a villa on a mountaintop for three days hanging out so it was awesome."
Dyro is drawn to electronic dance music since it affords him the medium to make people happy. "I just like to make people happy with my music, and because of electronic dance music, that makes it all possible for me," he said.
Last year, Dyro ranked No. 27 on the prestigious DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs poll, which was quite flattering for the Dutch DJ and producer. "I feel really honored that there are a lot of people voting for me. I am really happy and excited that there are so many fans willing to vote for me, but it is liked a mixed feeling since there are a lot of DJs that are ranked lower than me, that I consider way better than me and more experienced than me. It is a mixed and weird feeling, but I am proud of that I am on the list," the humble musician said.
Each day, Dyro is motivated by the inner producer in him. "First and foremost, I am a more of a producer. Djing for me is an extra, and I am getting better at it. I started out producing music. What drives me every day is making music and the most fun for me is spending a lot of time on a new song and being able to play it tonight. Being able to play my new songs, seeing the smiles on people's faces, and all my hard work paying off, is the best feeling there is," he said.
Dyro started his new label and he is almost ready to celebrate its first year anniversary. "My plans are to keep focusing on the label. Ever since I started, I got a lot of opportunities by Hardwell and Tiesto, and so many people supported me and gave me a platform and a stage. This is my chance to give back to those people and more to the young talents. I have been following for talents and with my label now, I can give them an opportunity to release their music and allow them to grow as artists. It is really exciting for me to work with new talent and younger guys and see their capabilities," he said.
His dream female collaboration choices include rapper M.I.A, Rihanna and Beyonce. "I really like M.I.A. and Beyonce, which is really obvious. I would also like to get in the studio with Rihanna," he said.
For aspiring DJs and producers, he recommended they "try to move forward" and not "focus too much on where they are right now." "People will focus on getting their songs released, which is an old-fashioned thing, and something that you don't even need a label. There are so many platforms to do that, such as Soundcloud and social media. I always say that 'good music speaks for itself,' so the moment you share it with your friends, people will find it if it is good music," he said.
Dyro defined the word success as "doing his best." "Success means giving my all and that I made people happy in the end," he said. "I am just really happy to be relevant today, and that there are still people supporting me and loving what I do, so I am really thankful for the fans.
