His previous single “Let Me See Ya Girl” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, thus becoming his fourth No. 1 song from his breakthrough album. “Oh my gosh. To have a fourth No. 1 from my debut album is incredible. You don’t normally get four singles from your first album. I was so thankful for everybody around me, since there are so many people involved, and I couldn’t do this by myself,” he said.
Swindell’s latest single “You Should Be Here” is different than his previous musical work, and it has struck a chord with the hearts of his fans and critics alike due to its emotional nature, which deals with the passing of his father. “On my first album, I think I established that I like to have a good time, but for the people that know me, I’m a little calmer off the stage. I have a serious side, and I just love everybody. I’ve lived with ‘You Should Be Here’ for quite a while and I’ve cried listening to it and writing it, and I think it has helped me, but I didn’t realize that it was going to help everybody else the way that it did. It shows you how powerful music can be and the lyrics. This is why I love country music. I just so happened to write it after an unfortunate situation. My dad was the coolest and most caring person. If he knew when he left this world that a song was going to be written and it would touch that many people, he wouldn’t change a thing. I still firmly believe that he is watching, so I can finally smile and get through the song,” he said.
