Interview: Charlie Puth talks ‘Nine Track Mind’ and future plans (Includes interview)

On the song selection process for Nine Track Mind, he said, “After Furious 7 came out, it was time to write songs for my album and every day, I just lit a candle, chilled out, got with some of my friends, and we wrote songs. We wrote about 25 songs and we just narrowed them down,” he said.

He listed his new single “One Call Away” from his upcoming album as his personal favorite song on there, which is making its way up the radio airwaves.

When asked what inspires his songwriting, he said, “Anything that I am feeling. When I am walking around, and I am hearing a melody in my head, I would take my phone out and I would just record it. For me, it’s important to capture that moment, and that energy.”

Puth became a global phenomenon thanks to being a part of the international smash hit “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa, where they paid homage to the late Paul Walker. It has been certified quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and it has been streamed over 1.5 billion times worldwide. “See You Again” stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 12 weeks.

On December 11, Puth will be performing at the 2015 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in Madison Square Garden in New York City. “The fact that I even get to play Madison Square Garden is just unbelievable. I’m nervous in a good way,” he said. “I think it is going to be a great performance, and it’s going to be a really great time. I am really, really stoked about it.”

Regarding his future plans, he said, “I am very excited for this album to come out on January 29. I have my tour in March, and maybe a little bit of acting here and there. It will be cool.”

His proudest professional moments thus far including hearing his records on the radio. “That really makes me happy, and it’s something that I always wanted,” he said.

Each day, Puth is motivated by people and simply by being outside. “Traveling to different places and going around the world. That’s what motivates me the most,” he said.

He listed global music star Ariana Grande as his dream female duet choice. “Ariana has a crazy vocal range and I heard she is a fan of mine as well. I think we will hit it off very well. She is pretty talented,” he said.

For his fans, Puth said, “I love them very much and thank you so much for supporting me. I wouldn’t be anywhere without you all.”
