Interview: Aubrie Sellers talks ‘New City Blues’ country album (Includes interview)

On the song selection process for the album, Sellers said, “I started writing for this record about four years ago/ The first song on the record was written in 2012, and Frank was a great editor. We just went in and narrowed it down. I put a lot of songs on there, and I wanted to make sure that my first record was a representation of who I am. There’s a lot of diversity in the songs.”

Her new album has received rave reviews from most music critics. “I wasn’t expecting that honestly. I am just happy that people are hearing the music, and for that to be happening as well, is really cool and overwhelming in a really good way,” she said.

Regarding her plans for the future, she revealed, “This year, I am going to be touring mostly. I get to play my own shows for the first time with a full band, and I will be playing festivals and my own shows. I am super-excited to get the record out there.”

She listed Steve Earle as her dream male duet choice in music. “I’ve already sang with Ralph Stanley and he is my favorite singer, but I really love Steve Earle and I think he would be a really cool person to do a song with,” she said.

Each day, Sellers is motivated by her songwriting. “Writing and singing is a form of expression, and I think that drives me creatively,” she said. “I am ambitious and I want to achieve things and that definitely drives me to get up and go out there, if you want to make it happen.”

“Success means staying true to myself and not letting outside influences affect what I am doing, and just to keep doing what I am doing and take my music to as many people as possible,” she concluded.
