Rob Lundquist from the a cappella group Home Free chatted with Digital Journal about their new album and upcoming concert at New York's Town Hall.
Home Free were the winners of the fourth season of NBC's "The Sing-Off." "Winning 'The Sing-Off' was pretty amazing for all of us. That was two months of every-day rehearsing, 10 to 15 hours a day, and it was really intense but it one of the coolest experiences that we ever had. It was crazy to actually win it, since it changed everything for us. That show changed our lives," he said.
Regarding their new country album, entitled Country Evolution, Rob said, "A month before, we all threw out ideas for songs that we wanted to do. Initially, we wanted to stick to classic country hits, but as the process went along, we got a couple of new ones in there like Andy Grammer's 'Honey, I'm Good' and Sam Hunt's 'House Party.' It was amazing that we were able to get Charlie Daniels on this record too. We were blown away."
It was extremely difficult for Rob to select a personal favorite song on the album. "I love all of the songs, to be honest. I think we hit home runs on all of them," he said. "We like to try and push the envelope as much as we can."
On September 25, Home Free will be performing at Town Hall in New York, and the radio station Nash FM 94.7 is offering fans the chance to get tickets. "We have done a lot of shows in New York outside the city, but this will be our first, proper Manhattan gig. We are very excited for it," Rob said.
Rob noted that he is a fan of such country songstresses as Kacey Musgraves and Danielle Bradbery, and be praised both of them for being really good. "Danielle is flawless and she has a beautiful voice," he said, prior to complimenting iconic female vocalists Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris for their talents.
