The duo has been nominated for three 2015 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awards, which include nods in the “Album of the Year” for their County Line CD, as well as “Group or Duo of the Year” and “Interactive Artist of the Year” categories. “We are nominated for three awards, and it’s pretty unreal honestly. We grew up watching the award show on TV. We had one channel back on the farm and they played the award show every year, and we grew up watching that, and I never thought that I would be on that award show. It’s pretty cool to be nominated and to be playing there this year,” Curtis said.
Their latest single, “She’s With Me” reached No. 1 on Country Music Television (CMT). As a result, High Valley has back-to-back No. 1 singles on CMT with “She’s With Me” and “Make You Mine.” “That was crazy. To have back-to-back singles is overwhelming, to feel the support from all of our friends over at CMT, and obviously the fans that are voting for the videos. It’s an honor to be recognized in that way. We love making music and it’s cool to know that other people are loving it as well. That is super-encouraging,” he said.
This summer, High Valley has performed on such iconic stages at The Grand Ole Opry, the Cavendish Music Festival and Boots and Hearts. “Playing The Grand Ole Opry was incredible. Ricky Skaggs joined us on stage and performed ‘Make You Mine’ with us. In our home, he was the legend. We considered him to be more of a big deal than Elvis Presley or anybody. He was our hero, so it was pretty cool to be able to play the Opry with our role model, Ricky Skaggs. I would love to do that every week if I cool,” he said.
Regarding the commercial success of their County Line album, Curtis said, “It is doing better than any album we ever had. It is cool because we let our fan-club hear the demos before we recorded the album, and they let us know what their favorite songs were, and that determined the songs that we recorded. The fans also helped us pick our singles, and the songs have done amazing on radio and on CMT. The fans helped us produce this album, so it has been pretty cool.”
Curtis listed Taylor Swift as his dream female duet choice, and he complimented Canadian country songstress Michelle Wright. “It would be pretty cool to do a song with Taylor Swift,” he said.
