Hailee Steinfeld takes on James Bay’s ‘Let It Go’

Steinfeld’s performance of James Bay’s “Let It Go” adds to her continued pursuit of exemplifying her singing versatility. Viewers were first exposed to Steinfeld’s powerful singing abilities in the feature film Pitch Perfect 2 and she only continued to demonstrate her impressive vocals over the course of her debut, upbeat empowerment single, “Love Myself.” However, recently Steinfeld has been making the extra effort to illuminate her vocal ability through stripped-down performances. Her recent acoustic rendition of the normally uptempo, hyped-up “Love Myself” gave viewers a glance into the more intimate side of Steinfeld’s music.

This time around, though, Steinfeld took the opportunity to showcase her delicate, soothing vocals through her rendition of Bay’s “Let It Go.” In the video performance, Steinfeld is seen wearing a flat-brimmed hat — one very similar to which Bay is famous for wearing, while accompanied by a guitarist in a twinkle-lit room. When she posted about the “Let It Go” cover on Twitter, Steinfeld also included that the 25-year-old singer-songwriter lands among her top choices: “‏@HaileeSteinfeld: I covered a song by one of my favorite artists, check it out. x.”

Steinfeld recently spoke with Billboard regarding her transition into her music career, after being focused solely on film for a predominant part of her career. “Music is the most moving art form,” she said and continued, “It moves in such a personal way. There’s something about the control you have — I love it.”
