On May 10, Greek recording artist Valantis chatted with me at the Hellenic Times Gala that took place in New York's Marriott Marquis Hotel, prior to his live performance.
The Greek singing sensation stated, "I am very happy to be here in America and especially in New York and to be among Greek-Americans. I am extremely proud to see congressman Gus Bilarakis here too. I hope to come back here."
Regarding his future plans, Valantis shared that he will be performing shows in Thessaloniki, Greece, as well as in the island of Rhodes.
For hopefuls who wish to go into music professionally, Valantis underscored the importance of believing in themselves. "Whatever goals you set your minds to, make them a reality," he said.
Valantis performed at this event along with international tenor Mario Frangoulis and Kathy Sledge from the iconic soul group Sister Sledge (that is best-known for the classic hit "We Are Family"). Dinner Dance chairman was Nick Katsoris, who is also president of the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund (HTSF).
General chairs of this event were benefactors and business leaders Margo and John Catsimatidis, both of serve as co-publishers of the Hellenic Times newspaper. Margo and John are avid in their charity work supporting such charities as the Police Athletic League, The National Alzheimer's Association, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Pakinson's Disease Foundation, among others.
