Grammy winner Lari White talks new ‘Old Friends, New Loves’ EP (Includes interview)

White is celebrating her 25-year career in music with her upcoming Old Friends, New Loves double EP. “I am very excited about it. I am making it this summer. It’s a work in progress. I am missing my fans and I am missing making music. Many years, I’ve been home-schooling three kids, and I’ve produced a bunch of projects, which has been great. I love the artists that I have been working with. I am looking forward to getting back out and reconnecting with the fans,” she said.

Aside from her singing, she is an actress who starred opposite Tom Hanks in Cast Away, as well as a Broadway actress, known for her role in Ring of Fire, the Johnny Cash musical. “I did a little bit of television here and there, and a couple of films, and only one Broadway show, but I really loved it. I see acting and songwriting as very closely related. It’s very similar to creating a voice in a character in a song,” she said.

Her Kickstarter campaign, which allows fans to become part of this record-making process, is running now through July 13. “I love Kickstarter. I’ve supported a number of projects on there, but I never did one myself. I really like the idea of not using a record label, and connecting directly with the fans who want the music, and collaborating with them. It’s a bit of an experiment for me in this new digital age. I’m entering the brave new world with this project,” White said.
