New York - Christian music star Matthew West sat down and chatted with Digital Journal at a local park in the heart of New York City to talk about his new album.
On the song selection process for his latest album, Live Forever, West said, "I wanted this record to move forward, both in the theme of the lyrics and I wanted the music to emulate that. I never want to make a song that sounds the same as something that I have already done. That was one of my biggest goals."
His newest album has been inspired by people's stories, and the theme deals with "the reminder that all the seconds, minutes, hours and days that we are given are all a gift, and nothing is promised beyond this moment." "The main theme is encouraging people to soak up the moments that they are given and make them matter," he said.
West listed the second-to-last track "Oh, Me of Little Faith" as his favorite tune on the album, which he described as his "singer-songwriter moment." "It's one of the more personal, intimate moments on the record," he said.
He dubbed "Grace Wins" as his victory anthem on the CD, while "Heaven Is The Hope" is "the ultimate meaning of the album."
West praised his tour for being "incredible." "We are almost done and I've got three more shows to go. We traveled to 42 cities around the country. My voice is tired and ready for a break, but we have seen incredible concerts in every city," he said.
He is inspired musically thanks to the rave reviews and positive feedback that he gets from fans and critics. "Rave reviews are the fuel on my creative fire," he said. "These concerts that I do reminds me that there are real people listening to these songs, and I have been given an opportunity to help inspire somebody."
"Thank you to the fans for giving me the career that I have been able to have, and then secondly, I would like to issue them a challenge to buy my new record," he said with a sweet laugh. "I really do hope people get fired up by this new music. I am probably as proud of this record if not more than anything that I have ever done. It is an exciting season."
