article imageFrankie Ballard talks new single, CD and upcoming New York show Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 23, 2014 in Music
Country star Frankie Ballard chatted about his latest plans, his new album "Sunshine & Whiskey" and his current title track single.
This past November, he played as part of "Guys with Guitars" at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts in Long Island, New York, to a well-received set. "That was good. It was really fun," he said.
His latest album, Sunshine & Whiskey, released on Warner Music Nashville reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Albums charts, and it featured the lead single, "Helluva Life," which peaked at No. 1 on country radio. "I spent two years making this album, some of the songs I wrote and some I found. I just tried to make the best decisions I could and be as honest as I could. I picked songs that meant something to do, and I really took my time," he said.
The title track single, co-written by Jaren Johnston from The Cadillac Three, is doing extremely well on the charts, reaching the Top 25, and climbing and Ballard feels "really blessed." "It came out on the heels of 'Helluva Life' going to No. 1, and it gained some momentum and it has really taken off. People are really loving it. Some of it has to do with the time of year that it is, but it is doing great. I hope that it keeps going," he said.
He selected "It Don't Take Much," which he co-wrote, as his personal favorite song on the CD. "I really like what it says about life in a small town and I really love to play it live and I enjoy the groove of it," he said.
The Michigan native revealed that his plans for the future are to continue making country music for a living. "I am touring all the time non-stop, and that's the way I like it. I gotta take the music to the people. I love it," he exclaimed.
On September 10, Ballard will be back in the Long Island area, playing a show at the Pennysaver Amphitheater in Farmingville as part of "Salute to Heroes," with such country stars as Lee Brice and Lisa Matassa. "I love Lee and he always put on a great show, and I am excited to be up there with him. We are always try to do the best we can and we going to give you guys a great show that night," he said. "Lisa Matassa is very sweet. I am looking forward to it and it'll be here before you know it."
His dream female duet choices include country queen Dolly Parton and neo-traditionalist songstress Kacey Musgraves.
