Christian recording artist Francesca Battistelli will release her third studio album, "If We're Honest," on April 22, which features her new Top 5 single, "Write Your Story."
She is the best-selling new Christian music artist in the past 10 years. Her music has been featured on TriStar Picture's Soul Surfer, Columbia Picture's Julie and Julia in its promotional trailer, ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition,” NBC's The Biggest Loser,” FOX's So You Think You Can Dance, among many others. "Every time something like that happens, it is really surreal, especially to hear yourself on TV," she said.
In the fall of 2013, Battistelli was featured on three million Diet Pepsi cans throughout the country. "It was really fun to see my face on the Diet Pepsi cans. That was really neat," she said with a sweet laugh.
For the new album, she recorded a "bunch of songs" and it was difficult to choose. "We put out a deluxe edition in time and that way I didn't have to give my songs to the 'song orphanage' since they all made it on the record and that is exciting for me," she said.
Battistelli selected the title track song as her favorite due to its authenticity. "It's so personal and it's the most honest and vulnerable song on the record and it means a lot to me," she said.
On February 13, she made her national morning TV debut, where she performed "Write Your Story" on ABC's Good Morning America. "That was such a fun experience since I had never done a morning show like that and they were so gracious and kind to us. We had a great time," she said.
Battistelli has garnered a total of 22 Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Award nominations to date and has won six, which included wins for "Artist of the Year" and "Female Vocalist of the Year" at the 2011 Dove Award ceremony. With her "Artist of the Year" elite title, she became the only female vocalist in the past 21 to achieve this honor, since Amy Grant won it in 1992. "That was such an honor to be honored by your peers like that. It was a really cool thing," she said. "I did not expect to win 'Artist of the Year,' and to receive it from one of my heroes, Steven Curtis Chapman, felt like I was dreaming."
In 2009, Battistelli secured a Grammy nomination for "Best Gospel Performance" for her single "Free To Be Me," a track on her gold-selling debut album My Paper Heart, which marked the first debut CD from a contemporary Christian recording artist to achieve gold certification in almost a decade. "We got to attend the Grammys that year and it was really neat and such an honor," she said.
Speaking of awards, Battistelli is nominated for the 2014 K-LOVE Fan Awards "Female Vocalist of the Year," which will take place on June 1 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. "I am honored to be nominated by the fans and we will see what happens," she said.
She appeared on "The Bible: SON OF GOD Tour 2014" which commenced on March 20 and ran 16 dates through April 13. "The Bible: SON OF GOD Tour 2014," a Word Entertainment, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey partnership, is a two-hour live event that brought the epic "The Bible" mini-series and feature film The Son of God to life thanks to its visual effects. "It was a wonderful tour and it is fun to share the road with some of these artists. It showed great footage from the film and all the different artists sang and did monologues, and I really enjoyed it," she said.
Aside from her musical work, Battistelli is a wife to Matt, and they have two children, a son named Matthew Elijah Goodwin, and a daughter Audrey Jane. "We are grateful to travel as a family and take our children to work. That is a blessing," she said. "There are days that we do not get enough sleep but it is worth it since they are amazing."
