A musician famed for his grunge rock voice as much as his issues with substance abuse, Weiland was set to perform in Minnesota tonight, with his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. This concert, part of the band’s tour was scheduled to happen at Mediana Ballroom, and now stands cancelled.
His wife Jamie Weiland, a photographer, spoke to the Los Angeles Times briefly, saying “I can’t deal with this right now. It’s true.” The cause of Weiland’s death is currently unknown.
News organizations were alerted to the news on Thursday night when Weiland’s friend and fellow musician Dave Navarro, a member of the band Jane’s Addiction, sent out a message on social network Twitter saying, “Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died. So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight”.
Weiland’s musical career spanned three decades, and besides Stone Temple Pilots, he also played for the group Velvet Revolver between 2003 and 2008. Weiland was with the Stone Temple Pilots between 1986 and 2002, and also after his Velvet Revolver stint. The reunion with his old band lasted till 2013. Weiland was also famous for missing shows and his frequent trips to rehab.
