Lacey Sturm, the former lead singer of the rock band Flyleaf, opened about her newest book "The Reason – How I Discovered a Life Worth Living."
Sturm co-founded the rock group Flyleaf and she helped it achieve international fame as its lead songstress. Its hit single "All Around Me" was certified platinum and it reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
This October, she will be releasing her first book The Reason – How I Discovered a Life Worth Living, which is quite intense in its subject matter dealing with a variety of serious topics such as overcoming depression and contemplating suicide. "It was really my husband's idea to write it," she said. "When I left Flyleaf I really wanted to stay in contact with the fans through e-mail and blogging, and I just wanted to keep reaching out to them, because I have heard a lot of their stories and how the music has really helped them through dark times. That was my favorite part about doing what I do: helping people through hard things with music. My husband inspired me to write a book, but I was hesitant at first, and I sat down and tried."
Sturm added, "The book gave me a brand new perspective as well. I learned a lot. I looked through my mom's eyes and my grandmother's eyes and seeing their perspective on things was very important. Life is an adventure."
She acknowledged that she had written more than she needed for this book. "Cutting out parts was really difficult to do. It was really interesting that I was able to sign with a publisher who gave me a book deal," she said. "This book focuses on the fact that God loves us and the perspective that changed in my life, and my belief that I had no purpose. That changed my view of people and my life and I was able to find value that I didn't see before."
"I hope that the book helps the fans in some way, and I hope it inspires them to believe in themselves more and believe in the great things that they are made to accomplish. They are made with a purpose and they are loved," she further added.
The rock songstress is in the studio writing and recording new songs for her upcoming mainstream solo album. "We have written a lot of songs and I love them. I think they are awesome and they speak from the heart," she said.
Aside from music, Sturm reveals that she loves to cook and to take care of her boys and she enjoys reading to them. "I love being a mom, and I love to champion my husband to help him be the best he can be," she said.
Sturm defined success as "fulfilling the call that God has had on my life."
