Her new single “Better Now” is out now on iTunes. “This song is all about a message of hope and salvation. Not salvation in a religious sense, but in a personal, coming to your own rescue sense. Meaning that no matter what mistakes you have made in the past you can change your future by learning from those mistakes and forgiving yourself. We all make mistakes and you can either let those mistakes eat away at you and destroy your chances of happiness or you can decide to look inside and do the work necessary to learn and grow and become more attuned with your personal truth,” she said.
She dubbed Phynx as her “musical brother.” “We met when the forces of the universe brought us together.I was on Soundcloud one day and came across a remix he did of Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse.’ It was so freaking good so I started checking his page to see if he had any original works. He had an EP released on his Soundcloud that was awesome but none of his originals had any vocals. I was starting to hear melodies and top line all over them. On a whim I messaged him on Soundcloud and told him I loved his work and if he ever wanted vocals I would love to write with him and create something. I think he emailed me like five minutes later with a song and that randomly was ‘Next,’ the first single we released together. I don’t know how I could tell from thousands of miles away that on the other side of this email was a really cool person but I could just feel it. We shot some stuff back and forth over email for a few months and then one day he messaged he was coming to California. I had a show booked that next week and somehow the events all came together in a way where he actually did the show the show with me. We were instant homies and we have pretty much been hanging solid ever since. Writing, performing, and just hanging out having fun. He has become a brother all the way to me and a super important friend and colleague. I honesty think he is one of the most gifted artists and producers I know, and I don’t say that lightly,” she said.
Regarding her new music video for “Better Now,” she said, “The music video really follows a personal story of my own relationship that the song was written about. I cast my real life partner in it because this is our story and I couldn’t imagine telling it with anyone else than him. We have been through a lot and we have learned a lot and this song is about us finding each other again when it looked like our relationship might not survive. It was important to me to communicate the sweet sadness of the moment when you realize your relationship, your love, may not make it. It wasn’t about being angry or fighting, it was literally about the question of surviving the growing pains our human experience together.”
Nesta’s upcoming album, Surrender, is really an eclectic mix of EDM, pop, funk, blues, and rock. “When Phynx and I started writing it, we just wanted it to be an adventure of sound and allow the music to take us on a journey. We wrote the majority of it in one location over the course of a week long intensive writing session and because we were able to create when we felt inspired the songs just sort of presented themselves,” she said.
Her dream male collaboration choices include Phynx. “I really feel blessed to work with him. Next up would be Kygo. I love his stuff and I saw his set on the final night of Coachella this last year and I just felt all warm and fuzzy the entire time. Zhu’s remix of Lana Del Rey’s Westcoast put him way up on the map for me. Porter Robinson, who is just so super talented. Gareth Emery blew me away this year with ‘Dynamite.’ I saw his first show of his tour and I was blown away by his energy and vibe. There are so many. Diplo, Tiesto and Above and Beyond,” she said.
For her fans, she concluded, “A big resounding thank you. My fans are super-supportive and simply so lovely. But most importantly, I want to tell them to always lead with their hearts and every day is new day and a new opportunity to create the life you love. This too shall pass. Don’t sweat the small stuff because life is so precious. Live it up and love it up.”
