article imageEDM duo Heatbeat talks about new 'Global Monster' album Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 25, 2014 in Music
Agustin Servente and Matias Faint from the electronic dance music (EDM) duo Heatbeat discuss their new album "Global Monster."
On their approach for the song selection of the new album, they remarked, "For two years we been working on the album. There was no selection to be honest. We produce anything we like or feeling inspired and when the track was finished, we just put it as part of the album. We wanted to do it as natural as we can."
The trance duo added, "Since is our first artist album, we tried to show the people all the different kinds of music we like to produce. From melodic, down-tempo songs to the most typical Heatbeat sound that includes trance sounds mixed with techno, electro or even dub-step, as well as vocal tracks and collaborations."
Their new album includes a collaboration with EDM sensation Chris Schweizer, whom they dubbed as "one of their best friends" and a "great artist." "We already released 'Nasty' last year , but we improved it with a cool mix, the VIP mix," they exclaimed.
Agustin revealed that it is difficult to choose a favorite song on the album, especially with 15 tracks, especially since "they all have a different story and great memories making them." "If I have to choose personally, 'Magical Owl Princess' and 'Berserker.' 'Magical Owl Princess' is a down-tempo, classical song, combined with epic and dark melodies. 'Berserker' is something unique, we tried to combined a groovy baseline with a trance melody. We didn't hear too many tracks with this style. Its simple, but i just love it," he explained.
Matias added that he really enjoyed making 'Buenosaurus.' "This works very well on the dance-floor. 'Left Standing' is a stronger trance melody, and 'Magical Owl Princess' is dedicated to my girlfriend, which is something different: a track to close your eyes and just enjoy," Matias said.
Agustin added, "Dance music can be so powerful regarding moods and feelings. You can hear a tune that is so dark that gives you goosebumps, or you can hear the most happy and commercial tune ever while you are driving your car, and it will get you in the perfect mood."
Matias is drawn to dance music due to its "rhythm or emotional range," which makes the EDM genre unique. "DJs and producers can tell a story through their sets and tracks," he said.
Their musical influences range from such musical acts as Paul van Dyk to The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers.
They both concurred that it is great to be a part of the Armada family. "We have a great relationship with some of the guys that works there, and make Armada as great as it is. Musically it is by far our favorite label. They care so much about the music and their artists. We are always excited to receive their promos," they said.
Agustin noted that half of the single "Berserker" was made in a hotel in Singapore by Matias, and he had emailed that idea over to Agustin, who agreed upon its greatness. "Then when he came back from tour, we went together in the studio and finished it," Agustin said.
Their song "Secret" features Quilla on vocals. "Armada presented us Quilla, she is a great artist and one of the top vocal performers in the dance music scene. 'Secret' is a trance track with a powerful melody and a mysterious vocal. I think trance fans are going to love it. It reminds a little of our classics 'Roses Never Cry' and 'Chow Mein,'" they said.
They shared that their worldwide tour to support their new album will commence in October, which will include stops in China, Argentina, Russia and the United States. "We don't have any plans to come to New York City yet, but I'm sure it is going to happen soon," he exclaimed.
Heatbeat listed Emma Hewitt and Brody Dalle as their dream female collaboration choices in music.
For their fans, they concluded, "Global Monster is the results of two years of hard work. We did this with our hearts, in between tours we went to Buenos Aires to keep working on it. So in the end, you guys were truly the inspiration of this album, after so many good tours and experiences in different countries. This is our gift for you, for the love you show to us every day and every night in this last two years. We hope you like it."
