Manchester - Ed Sheeran shocked fans at Albert Hall last night, when he appeared at Sam Smith's performance, to perform Smith's smash single, "Stay With Me," alongside him.
Though Smith, dressed in formal suite attire, originally initiated the performance, Sheeran, clad in a simple pair of denim and a long-sleeved shirt, quickly joined Smith, on stage.
According to TIME, Smith was performing in the U.K. Wednesday night at "Manchester’s Albert Hall when he launched into the popular tune." At approximately the 45-second mark, in the video above, Sheeran walked out, on stage, and was met by the roaring cheers and screams of audience members.
Sheeran performing the song, accompanied by Smith, wasn't his first attempt at taking on Smith's smash single. Recently, the "Sing" artist covered Smith's "Stay With Me." Sheeran covered the track when he visited the BBC Radio 1 Studios in June, in the Live Lounge for BBC Radio . The video of Sheeran, as a solo act, performing his take on Smith's "Stay With Me" can be viewed here.
Following the performance, Smith showed his appreciation of Sheeran's attendance, via his personal Instagram account. Along with an image of the pair performing, Smith include the message, “So amazing to have this KING @teddysphotos on stage with me tonight. Such a wise and true friend to have. Love ya brother x," according to TIME.
The Manchester Albert Hall performance, on October 29, 2014, of Sheeran and Smith performing "Stay With Me," together, can be watched above.
